The 2011 Toronto After Dark Film Festival
>> Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Considering the Toronto International Film Festival nearly killed me, I have no clue why I'm buying tickets to see this year's Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Actually I do, kick ass films.
Now in its sixth year, The Toronto After Dark Film Festival is a showcase of horror, sci-fi, action and cult cinema held annually in Toronto at the historic Bloor Cinema. I saw THE LAST EXORCISM at the festival last year, but other than that I've never supported it. So after perusing the official YouTube Chanel for this year's festival, my film choices are:
A LONELY PLACE TO DIE (UK, Crime/Thriller)
Screening: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 9:45 pm.
A group of five mountaineers are hiking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands when they discover a young Serbian girl buried in a small chamber in the wilderness. They become caught up in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with the kidnappers as they try to get the girl to safety.
THE WOMAN (USA, Drama/Thriller)
Screening: Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 7:00 pm
A successful country lawyer captures and attempts to "civilize" the last remaining member of a violent clan that has roamed the Northeast coast for decades, putting the lives of his family in jeopardy.
ABSENTIA (USA, Horror)
Screening: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 7:00 pm.
A woman and her sister begin to link a mysterious tunnel to a series of disappearances, including that of her own husband.
ABSENTIA is the only one I'm not sold on. I'm sold on it, I just don't think I can afford it. The trailer scared the bejesus out of me. And the folks at TADFF informed me on twitter that it's the scariest film in the festival. My friend Kim was supposed to see it with me, but suffered night terrors after seeing the trailer and now she won't go. She's so extra.
